Utility Locator

What are the features of Casper’s program?

There are three parts to the course: lecture, lab, certification. The utility locator certification course is offered either in the classroom or as a hybrid online class. Students who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of locating competency from our program partner Staking University, a nationally recognized underground utility locator certification training center. All classes are limited to 8 students to allow for quality instructor/student interaction.

The courses we offer are:

ELTR 1545 is our five-day classroom course, four days for lecture and labs, and the last day for certification testing. The lecture portion consists of theory and practical field demonstrations. The lab portion consist of students using locating equipment to locate utility lines on the Casper College campus.

ELTR 1645 is our accelerated locator class and is designed for the experienced locator as we cover the same material as our ELTR 1545 and 1545 Hybrid courses in three days instead of five. We recommend you have two years of locating experience to take this class.

Bring clothes appropriate for the weather conditions. You will be outside 3/4 of the class time.

Equipment

Professionals currently working in the field may bring their own equipment provided it can do both conductive and inductive locating. Equipment will be provided for all students.

Clothing

Please bring clothes and footwear appropriate for the weather conditions.  Also, bring shoes or boots appropriate for walking long distances in all types of weather; winter, spring or summer.  Do not bring steel toed boots.  You will be indoors for 30% of class and outdoors for 70% of class.  You may also need sunscreen and sunglasses.
